Our Mission
Sidegig Directory exists to map the vast ecosystem of what people call the "gig economy" or "sharing economy" - but it goes way beyond those labels. We're here to document all the different ways people can make money outside traditional employment.
Why We Started This
In the post-Zoom era, there's an increasing anxiety about how people can afford their lives. Life is expensive, and everyone is turning to side gigs and side hustles.
The pandemic gave us a taste of what life was like when we lived at home, worked remotely, and had to figure things out away from the office. There's a huge aspirational component to determining your own life and your own calendar - and that's largely paved through the path of side hustles and side gigs.
We wanted to see all the different ways people can make money. It's not just about uploading a resume to LinkedIn and hoping for the best with a nine-to-five job. This is about mapping out all the different ways to earn an income on your own terms.

Founder, Sidegig Directory
I've been doing side gigs since I was a kid. I started with the classic Lemonade Stand concept, but very quickly found myself in the baseball card trade as a late 80s Gen X kid - selling and trading cards face-to-face at baseball card shows and later comic books.
After graduating high school, I discovered eBay and ran a store that did very well for a couple of years. Through the years, I've explored what you can do on Craigslist - not just finding apartments or roommates, but so many other opportunities.
These days, I've been buying and selling in different marketplaces and exploring the creator economy. I'm plugged in quite a bit, though certainly not an expert like some people out there.
